Description

So as many of you know, I released a picture of Galvatron, a fun little doodle in response to Age of Extinction and I will see the movie this month (likely around July 21) and will let you know if this installment is worth more than the other films. So some of you might want to know what this picture is about. Well I am a big fan of the Tranformers, I love the original cartoon, Prime, I enjoyed Animated and beast wars and I think the toys look really cool around a computer and can kill a few minutes for you to transform them if you got nothing to do (such as being bed ridden from surgery, thanks Optimus! Thanks Pokemon platinum, you guys made that a much more bearable experience!)

Anyway I got nostalgic after drawing Galvatron and started to draw one of my favorite Transformers, Shockwave. For those that aren’t familiar with this character or simply only know him from the tv show, Shockwave was very different in the comic books. He was cold, calculative and if he deemed something to be done, it would be done without hesitation, including killing Megatron and taking over the Decepticons himself. I believe in his run he has taken over the Decepticons 3 times. Shockwave is nonnegotiable, cold blooded, malicious scientists who uses reason and logic to determine everything he does. Shockwave’s lab was always a chilling place to be, dead and alive dissections going on, body parts being opened up and examined all over the place. There was also always somebody or something hanging by chains in the background, all mutilated and horrific looking too. Plus if any character ended up on the lab table, Shockwave was actually real scary as he worked on them, doing what ever he was doing. I was always excited when a story revolving around Shockwave came up, cause they were always good ones.

As for the drawing, I did a G1ish version here. This design is what the toys would call a retool, same character but with a few new things. I wanted to be as loyal to the original design as possible but throw my own personal touch in there without coming across as betrayal to the original design. So mine keeps the one eye and no mouth (though I did make the eye red instead of yellow, I like that better), cannon on the left arm, tube connecting to it and his back (reminds me of Mewtwo’s second spine actually, has a similar function too), the glass chest, and a few other details. I decided to change how his cannon looks, to make it look more powerful. Shockwave is also always dissecting somebody or cutting into something in his lab as well, so I decided to add a retractable buzz saw to his right arm. This saw can both be used for his surgical operations as well as a fighting weapon (he also has a blade on the cannon to offer some additional fighting abilities). His transformation is meant to be a tank esc vehicle, I wanted to include it but I haven’t quite figured out how he goes from the robot to the tank, so I decided to just leave it out. The Decpeticon logo saw no design changes, as there’s no need to do anything to it, the red eyes and stuff is a ascetic thing and not a real change.

In his hand is a spark that was cut out of some victim, which is also why he has blue liquid all over his right side, he put the saw to somebody and ripped their spark out. For those that don’t know, Transformer’s blood is blue and its called Energon (think Oil or gasoline basically) and their spark is a equivalent to a human heart, and it is also the one way to actually kill them is to distinguish it or destroy it, though some characters have managed to have their’s revived under usually extreme means.

So anyway I’m in a Transformers mood so I’ll be making some more of these pictures. Hope you enjoy, if you guys want a specific character with my special design changes, let m know and I’ll see what I can do. Whether a Transformers comic will come out... maybe.

*editorial*
I decided to create the "Tech spec" you find on the toy's packaging for my designs. Keep in mind that these are my vote on these things and I am not using anything as reference for these other than the categories come from the original toys. I'll be doing this with all of them.

Size: Medium

Strength: 6
Intelligence: 10
Speed: 5
Endurance: 7
Rank: 7
Courage: 6
Firepower: 9
Skill: 10

also this is how I view these stats

Size: I added one stat to distinguish characters like Trypticon and say Rumble. This way Optimus Prime can get away with having a 10 in Strength, even though Metroplex is clearly much stronger than him. the groups will be small, for guys about human size like Rumble or Ravage, medium, which is Bumblebee to Jetfire, large which is most gestalts like Devastator, and Enormous, which is guys like Fortress Maximus.

Strength- Physical ability, how hard they hit, what can be lifted, stuff of that nature. Can be influenced by melee weapons if they specialize in them
Intelligence- Not only how smart they are as a whole but how tactful they are. 1 being just runs in guns a blazing with no plan, 10 being has about 30 back up plans if something goes wrong.
Speed: How fast they are in both actual moving speed (considered with alt from and robot forms) and how agile they are.
Endurance: How long they can remain active before having to recharge
Rank: Not only how high up in the Autobot/Decepticons actual rank they are but also determines who they'd be considered in charge of, so a character with a 5 is likely going to have to take orders from one with an 8. This can also determine respect, as a character with high Rank is probably more respected in the organization then one with a lower one.
Courage: How long they're willing to remain on a battlefied before retreating as well as a measurement on what they're willing to do for their leaders, ones with a low score probably would refuse to do anything deemed too dangerous while ones with a higher would do it without question.
Firepower: Mostly has to do with their normal carry on weapons as well as how effective they are with range weapons of any kind.
Skill: In general how good they are at completing tasks that doesn't involve just shooting things, hacking computers, setting up a bomb, being stealthy, stuff like that.

These would make amazing video game graphics! You should make a fangame with them! :)
